SMA Pickleball 2019 Winter Shootout

SMA Pickleball just wrapped up their first tournament, the Winter Shootout League! All around there was great competition, sportsmanship, and play, as well as fun. 

The tournament was for players of all ages and skill levels. The format was a ladders style, round-robin with players organized into mixed groups of 5 based on their current rating. Each court was assigned a rating value (2.5 – 4.0) and players moved up or down on the courts depending on the tally of their scores. There were 2 rounds played each Thursday, over the course of 6 weeks, March 7 – April 11, 2019, with each player participating in 4 games, and refereeing during the game they sat out.

Thanks to all the organizers and participants for making this a challenging and fun event! A big shout-out to Bob Masucci for organizing and running the tournament along with Fred Collins. Another shout out to bob Riehl of Bob’s Racquet Sports for providing the paddles that were awarded to the winners.

The club hosted a celebratory get-together at Don Lupe’s Grill on the last day of the tournament to celebrate the winners, and to enjoy good company and food. The winners are listed below:
